Do you know that Goygol Wine Plant is the first wine-making enterprise in Azerbaijan?

Goygol Wine Plant OJSC, which has 150 years of history, is the oldest wine, cognac, champagne, vodka and non-alcoholic beverage producer in Azerbaijan. The foundation of the Goygol Wine Plant, one of the oldest wine-making farms in the South Caucasus, was laid in 1860 by Schwab Germans, who were then inhabited Yelenendorf, by present-day Goygol. When Germans coached the area, this settlement was calling Hanik village, where the Oghuz tribe lived.

In 1862, Vohrer Brothers joint-stock company was founded. This company was led by Christoff Vohrer and his sons Gottlob, Friedrich, Henryk and Christofor. At that time, Hummel Brothers’ Trade House was established, with C.Hummel and his sons Jacob, Albert, Georgie and Gothlib. Management board of the two joint-stock companies was in Yelenendorf, their representations and sales centers were functioning in Ganja, Baku, Tbilisi, Moscow, Kyiv, Odessa, Tomsk and Batumi. Concordia cooperative, was founded on August 8, 1922, on the basis of this plant, was the largest wine-making farm at that time in the Caucasus region, producing wine, cognac and vodka.

517 hectares of vineyard

13 types of grapes are cultivated at Goygol Wine Plant’s processing enterprise

"Goygol Wine Plant" OJSC has 517 hectares of vineyard cultivated in 2006-2008 and planted with high quality local and European grape varieties. Breaded grape stems that adapted to local conditions were purchased from “GONTARD FRERESEPINIERES VITICLES” company of France and “VIVAI MARCYI” company of Italy well-known in Europe. Currently, in Goygol and Samukh regions are cultivated Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Caberne-Sauvignon, Saperavi, Madrasa, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Rkatsiteli, Grenache, Muscat, Bayanshira grape varieties. In the near future, the area of vineyards will be increased to 1500 hectares.

Irrigation

The grape seedlings are irrigated by the rivers taken from the glaciers of the Lesser Caucasus.

One of the best ways to increase productivity and improve the quality of grapes is irrigation. In order to give a good result, irrigation is provided in accordance with the grape sort and the required condition of the product. Irrigation-related agrotechnical measures and methods, natural conditions and physiological condition of plants are also considered. The irrigation process is necessary not only to improve the grape productivity, but also to improve the quality of products.

Professional winemaker

Good team of employees is the key to success

Well-known scientist Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) said that “Wine is the most healthful and most hygienic of beverages”. As American professor M.Emery quotes, “Wine is a chemical semphony”.
The plant is hiring the highly qualified local and foreign specialists and is closely cooperating with wine enologists who have been invited from Italy to bring international quality products to the quality of products. Specialists of the company regularly visit grape plantations, conduct monitoring in the fields, analyze soil and advise on the growing process.
All heads and specialists of the departments are increasing their skills in international exhibitions and forums, exchange experiences with foreign companies, develop and apply the new technologies.

Grape harvesting

Only hand-harvesting is applied in our vineyards, grapes are carefully sorted and the best grapes are selected for production.

The first step in winery is, of course, harvesting. The grape is collected at the foot of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains at a plain of 600 m above sea level. In order to get high-quality wine, the harvesting is carried out in the optimal time, ie when the chemical composition of the globe is completely compatible with the technological requirements. This condition of the product is called technical growing. Systematic control over the growth of the grape harvest is accurately defined. The main indications of growth are sugariness and vibrational acidity of the globe. We use hand-harvested grapes for better quality indicators.

Growing of grapes

Our grapes grown in our 517 hectares garden areas rich of sunlight and fertile soil

The word of “vinum” (wine) in Latine was taken from the Chaldeans. The meaning is"boiling", or wine, drink is made as a result of the yeasting of juice. The wine contains over 45 ingredients. They have a positive impact on the human body.
The biggest role in the cultivation of our wines is playing variety of grapes variety brought from more than 15 different countries and planted in our 517-hectare vineyards. The formation of the grape's technological properties during the growing process takes place in several stages. At the initial stage of this process, the growth of globe and vine is slow, and then the growth stops, after this the trunk begins to grow. The beginning of growth is characterized by the following external features: the globe is softening, take the color of its type, and the shell becomes more refined and transparent. Therefore, we are taking into account the correct selection of species, comprehensive soil and climatic conditions in which the species are cultivated, and other external conditions to make perfect wine.

Equipment from Italy

It is important to keep the traditions of classic winery and combining with the latest technical achievements

Now the company is a modern winery, combining classic technology and the latest technical achievements. At present, all production buildings, shops and auxiliary fields have been reconstructed and repaired; all equipment and technological lines have been renewed and replaced with modern ones. For this purpose contracts were signed with Italy's well-known company "TECNOFOOD GROUP" SRL, a leading company in the production of equipment for the wine industry.

Wine cellar

The Prodacts are kept in oak barrels and stainless steel tanks from France and Italy

As a technological device, in the plant operates a wine cellar, built in the middle of the XVIII century, with no analogues in the Caucasus, has a depth of 15 meters, a length of 800 meters and a total area of 6,000 square meters.  The wines are kept in oak tubes, following the established standards, which add extra fragrance and delicate taste. The enterprise has a minimum shake, a well-defined temperature, humidity and lighting, and the necessary microclimate. Total capacity of the oak tubes intended to store madera wines, high quality port and kagor wine is 1,000,000 decalitres.
There are stainless steel tanks at the plant, purchased from the most advanced companies, with a total volume of 1,200,000 decaliters.
